The Women's Hospital at Saint Joseph East offers educational programs, maternity support, and a commitment to caring for all women and their families seeking Lexington, Kentucky Maternity Education classes. We understand that you are faced with many decisions related to your maternity needs-let us provide you with the right tools and resources.
To ensure enrollment in our classes, please register when you are approximately 20 weeks gestation.
Depending on your circumstances, you may qualify for reduced-fee classes. Before registering, please call our office at 859.967.2229 for more information. All classes must be paid at registration.
Please note: All childbirth and sibling classes offered by The Women's Hospital will tour the facility.

Our Lamaze-based, 4-week series is a comprehensive and informative class on what to expect during labor, delivery and postpartum. We highly recommend attending these classes when you are 28-30 weeks gestation.

This program is a more compact version of our 4-week series covering the same scope of discussion topics ensuring you are just as prepared for labor and delivery. We highly recommend attending these classes when you are 32-34 weeks gestation.
This class is a Lamaze-based, one-day class. Lasting only 4 hours, you will receive an abbreviated version of discussion topics covered in our 4-week series. We highly recommend attending this class when you are 32-34 weeks gestation.
Our 4-week Lamaze-based childbirth education series condensed to an all-day weekend class. We highly recommend attending this class when you are 32-34 weeks gestation.

This consecutive 2-day program is a more compact version of our 4-week series covering the same scope of discussion topics ensuring you are just as prepared for labor and delivery. We highly recommend attending these classes when you are 32-34 weeks gestation.
Our Lamaze-based, Private Childbirth Class is a one-time, one-day class and is suggested for those parents-to-be who prefer to have one-on-one instruction. This class includes all aspects of our 4-hour Weekend Childbirth Education Class. We highly recommend attending this class when you are 32-34 weeks gestation.
Please note: Classes are made by appointment only.
This one-time class incorporates educational material designed to make you feel more comfortable and secure in your ability to take care of your newborn. A pediatrician will be in attendance as a guest speaker. We recommend attending this class during your third trimester. Registered grandparents are welcomed to attend.

Normal newborn appearances
Caring for your newborn
Feeding your newborn
Bathing techniques for your newborn
Cord and circumcision care
Hands-on activities-swaddling, diaper changing and holding-using life-sized dolls

Our Breastfeeding class is taught by Certified Lactation Counselors. We recommend attending this class during your third trimester. Spouses are encouraged to attend.

Our Breastfeeding Support class offers encouragement, information and education to promote better breastfeeding for mom and baby after delivery. This class is hosted by a Certified Lactation Counselor. Babies welcomed.

Cost: $25 per couple Limit of 3 couples per class
This is a one-time class. Parents will be able to learn basic techniques of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and choking for their newborn. Educational material covers infants from newborn to 1 year old. We recommend attending this class during your third trimester.
If you have already delivered, please arrange for a babysitter for your little one, we want you to be able to completely benefit from this important and possible life-saving class.
This is not a certification class; no AHA certificate will be given.

Recommended for children ages 3 to 5 years old, this is a fun class for big brothers and sisters. Our goal is to promote a strong family unit as well as relieving some of the anxieties of bringing a new baby into the household.
Children will be able to:
Tour the maternity unit
Become familiar with where their mommy and new sibling will be staying while at the hospital
Gain hands on experience with holding and diapering a life size doll
Cost: $15 per child Light refreshments provided Limited to 6 children per class-parent or guardian must accompany child
This class covers topics and gains the same hands on experience as with our Sibling Class, but recommended for children 6 to 12 years old.
24/7 Dad Please click the above hyperlink to register
This free class is offered to ALL dads, our patients, our family, friends and neighbors; any dad who would like to attend! Refreshments served (sandwiches, pasta, wings - refreshments will vary class to class).
The 24/7 Dad curriculum from the National Fatherhood Initiative focuses on a holistic approach to fatherhood — physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual involvement of fathers in their children’s lives. The group is a twelve week course that covers such topics as: family history, "what it means to be a man," discipline, working with Mom and co-parenting, showing and handling feelings, boyhood to manhood, "knowing myself," dealing with anger, improving communication skills, and stress-alcohol-work.
