A Guide to Wellness Offerings in 2010 Become a Healthier You!
It's a new year. Why not resolve to take a step toward better health? In 2010, Saint Joseph Health System (SJHS) is making a stronger commitment to helping employees improve their health and well-being. Echoing Catholic Health Initiatives' new program, CHI Healthy Spirit, SJHS is launching new programs to help employees develop a spirit of health and have greater access to healthy lifestyle options.
Refer to the guide below for an introduction to the three core components for 2010 and existing resources you can access to improve your health and maintain those often-broken New Year's resolutions to get fit.
New in 2010!
Health Risk Assessment/Biometric Screening-$100 INCENTIVE! Purpose: To help SJHS determine the health risks present in the workforce in order to assist in planning future wellness programs, provide education and address health needs. It will be available online to all employees and be accompanied by a biometric screening.
- FREE benefit for SJHS employees
- Receive $100 reimbursement on health insurance premiums if both are completed
- Confidential-Your health information will not be shared and is subject to HIPAA laws and regulations.
- The biometric screening will include: complete lipid panel (cholesterol), blood pressure, glucose (blood sugar), hip to waist ratio measurements, height/weight, ABI screening (vascular screening for peripheral artery disease), and free counseling by a registered nurse to provide results and education.

Weight-Loss Reduction Program-$50 INCENTIVE! Purpose: To encourage employees to eat healthy, maintain a healthy weight and get active. Employees can participate in any one of the courses below to be eligible for the $50 incentive. The incentive will only be awarded one time for participation in a weight loss/healthy lifestyle program, but employees may participate in multiple programs.
Weight Watchers at Work
- Classes begin this January - Schedule
- 17-week program
- Discounted rate for SJHS employees: $186 per participant, includes free e-Tools
- Employees can pay Weight Watchers directly with a full payment of $186 or with three checks of $62 given to Weight Watchers at the initial meeting and deposited by them on a monthly basis.
- Must attend 15 of the 17 meetings to receive one-time incentive
- Documentation of attendance must be provided.
- Meetings will last 45 minutes and will be held on campus.

Spark4Life
- FREE
- Online, 12-week program
- Focuses on weight loss, increased activity and healthy lifestyles
- Spark Points are earned for participating in various activities.
- Employees must complete the program and turn in their total Spark Points to receive one-time incentive.

Other Weight Loss/Healthy Lifestyle Program You can choose another weight-loss reduction program of your choice, but must provide documentation on the organization's letterhead to be eligible for the $50 incentive. Contact your wellness representative for questions.
Healthy Meal Plan Card-EARN FREE MEALS!
- All SJHS cafeterias will begin offering "Healthy Meal Plan" options on the menu.
- Receive a punch card to earn free meals
- Choose the healthy meal option of the day to receive a punch on your card.
- Only the "Healthy Meal of the Day" will earn you a punch.
- At the end of each month, if the card is filled with punches, a free meal will be earned.
