(March 16, 2009) Next week, March 22-28, Americans will observe Cover the Uninsured Week, a national effort to underscore the fact that so many of our fellow citizens, including eight of ten in working families, are living without health insurance.
In fact, there are almost 46 million Americans without health insurance, including more than 9 million children. That number climbs each week as a deepening recession costs more and more individuals their jobs – and their health insurance.
Here in our community, local organizers will observe Cover the Uninsured Week by hosting informational forums for the uninsured. Professionals from several agencies will be available to help uninsured families determine whether they qualify for programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, hospital charity care, KCHIP, etc. You may visit the following sites:

Cover the Uninsured Week has been held every year since 2003. This national observance has never been more crucial than it is this year. The nation has begun a vigorous debate on health care reform and this is an opportune time to begin learning and advocating for affordable and accessible health insurance for all.
