It is precious
cargo!
But have you ever thought about
what would happen if you were in a car accident and you were unable to speak for
your little one?
The Saint
Joseph East and Saint Joseph Hospital Volunteer Guild
is a proud sponsor of the WHALETM -"We Have A Little Emergency!" -
Program
Every year, many children under
age four are involved in automobile accidents. These accidents happen when
children ride with parents, as well as grandparents, and babysitters.
But if the adult in the vehicle
is seriously injured and unable to talk, emergency personnel have no way of
indentifying the child or his/her special needs - vital information that can
help rescue efforts go more smoothly. And sometimes, just knowing the
child's name can help rescue workers comfort a frightened child, while knowing
who to contact in an emergency allows them to notify the parents or the next
closest relative right way.
Thats when WHALE - "We Have a Little Emergency" - can
make a difference.
The
WHALE Program is a child safety seat occupant identification Program.
The WHALE kit comes with two WHALE safety seat stickers, two
WHALE window stickers, an Identification Label and brochure. The
WHALE stickers
alert emergency responders to the identification label on the back of your
child's car seat. The identification label contains Parent/Guardian's
name, address, city, state, home and work phone numbers; as well as emergency
contact information; the child's name, nickname, photo and date of birth; and a
place for a list of allergies, medications or conditions of the
child.
A few things to keep in
mind:
-
It is a good idea
to pass on WHALE information and materials to others
who routinely drive your child.
-
Remember to note corrrections on the
information sticker as details change, and update the child's
picture.
-
Remove the information label from the
seat if your sell or give the seat away.
Remember: It is extremely important to keep this information
current, and to place only the named child in the car seat with the
identification label.
