About Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)

Image-Guided radiation therapy (IGRT) is available at Saint Joseph Radiation Oncology. This 3-D IGRT machine offers greater precision for targeting and treating cancer by allowing the patient to be imaged in the treatment position during the actual time of treatment. This will allow the therapist to correct for internal organ movement which can shift the position of the area needing radiation therapy, resulting in less radiation to healthy tissues, fewer side effects, and possible reduction in the number of radiation treatments needed.
