Pharmacy Residency Program
The Residency
Program at Saint Joseph Hospital is designed to provide broad exposure to
patient-centered care in a dynamic and goal-oriented environment. Emphasis is
placed on development of independent practice skills in comprehensive pharmacy
practice, clinical and didactic teaching, research methodology, and
self-evaluation. Great importance is placed on the residents’ individual goals
and expectations thereby allowing program experiences and assessments to be
regularly restructured to keep pace with their development throughout the
year.
An interactive teaching environment allows residents to precept pharmacy
student experiences and present classroom lectures. The on-call program is a
resident learning experience that exemplifies the critical role residents serve
in providing patient care. Residents are members of the Adult Cardiac Code
team as well as the Medical Rapid Response team which provide care during
emergency scenarios. The Chief Resident program allows each resident to
cultivate strong leadership qualities while serving as the primary contact for
the residency during alternating blocks of time. Responsibilities of the Chief
Resident include coordinating the Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee meeting,
attending medical staff meetings, and planning residency events. Upon completion
of the program, each resident will be prepared to be exceedingly competitive in
both clinical or leadership opportunities within the profession.
A variety of rotational as well as longitudinal experiences help to
refine in-depth knowledge and skills in independent practice. Rotations
are offered in a variety of therapeutic areas and are tailored to the interests
of the individual. While on clinical service, responsibilities of the resident
include collaboration with healthcare team members and independent therapeutic
drug monitoring to support optimal patient centered
care.
