PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency Welcome
Prospective Residency Candidate,
Congratulations on your progress thus far in your pharmacy education, and your decision to continue your professional development! As you complete your first post graduate year and begin to evaluate prospective residency programs, it is important to consider how the program will benefit you and your career goals, as well as how you will thrive in that given environment.
At Saint Joseph Hospital we pride ourselves on our tradition of excellence. Saint Joseph Hospital has been recognized for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program, and in 2006 the pharmacy program received the ASHP Best Practice Award. These and other national and local honors demonstrate our commitment to quality patient care, and continuous improvement in our knowledge and skills as medical professionals.
The PGY2 Cardiology Residency is a postgraduate training program that focuses on the development of the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed to provide pharmaceutical care in cardiovascular pharmacy practice. The specialty residency is a coordinated educational experience that will assure the resident can provide safe, efficacious and cost-effective cardiovascular pharmacotherapy through patient care, teaching and project activities. Currently the program is accredited through ASHP.
Emphasis is placed on development of independent practice skills in cardiology, clinical and didactic teaching, research methodology, and self-evaluation. Great importance is placed on the residents' individual goals and expectations thereby allowing program experiences and assessments to be regularly restructured to keep pace with their development throughout the year. Upon completion of the program, each resident will be prepared to be exceedingly competitive in both clinical or leadership opportunities within the profession.
A variety of rotational as well as longitudinal experiences help to refine in-depth knowledge and skills in independent practice. Elective rotations are offered in a variety of therapeutic area so the resident can tailor the residency year to his/her interests. While on clinical service, responsibilities of the resident include collaboration with healthcare team members and independent therapeutic drug monitoring to support optimal patient centered care.
Residency candidates interested in the Saint Joseph Hospital Cardiology Residency Program should submit a Pharmacy Residency Application form along with a personal cover letter, official academic transcripts, curriculum vitae, and three letters of recommendation by January 5. The Saint Joseph Hospital Pharmacy Residency Application can be obtained on the Saint Joseph Hospital website. Upon review of applications received, qualified candidates will be contacted to arrange an onsite interview.
