Summer Teen Program Application

FAQ: Is there an age requirement to be a teen volunteer?
You must be 14 years old by the end of June 2013.
FAQ: How is the program set up?
Our 2013 summer program is broken into 3 sessions:
Session #1: June 10 – June 28, Monday - Friday
Session #2: July 1 – July 19, Monday - Friday
Session #3: July 22 – August 9, Monday - Friday
You may pick to enter any or all of these sessions.
Our daily volunteer shifts are:
6 AM – 9 AM; 9 AM – 12 PM; 12 PM – 3 PM; 3 PM – 6 PM
You may choose up to 3 shifts per session.
We have three hospitals and you can pick which one for which you would like to volunteer:
Saint Joseph Hospital – Off of Harrodsburg Road (One Saint Joseph Drive )
Saint Joseph East – Off of Richmond Road (150 North Eagle Creek Drive )
Saint Joseph Jessamine - Bypass in Nicholasville
There is an attendance requirement!!
If you miss more than 2 days in a session, you will be dismissed from the entire summer program immediately!! The only exception to this rule would be a death in the family.
So here is how it works….
Step 1: Review your personal schedule for the summer. When is your family going on vacation? Are you attending any camps over the summer? Do you have summer practices?
Example – After reviewing your schedule, this is what you find:
Family vacation is July 9th – July 13th
Band Camp July 23rd – July 27th
Swim practice M, W, F from 7:00A – 9:00A all summer
Step 2: Pick the sessions and shifts that do not overlap with the obligations you identified in Step 1.
Example: Session # 1 is your only choice because it does not overlap with your family vacation or band camp. Within Session #1 you can choose the 12P – 3P shift and/or the 3P – 6P shift. You can not choose the 9A – 12P shift because swim practice does not end in time for you to get to the hospital.
FAQ: What can a teen volunteer do at the hospital?
Some of this depends on your age, but we have lots of assignments to choose from. You can read about all of our volunteer assignments by clicking on this link: Opportunities. As you read the assignment descriptions, please pay special attention to the minimum age requirements for each assignment (at the bottom of the assignment page). Later, we will ask you for your assignment preferences and we make every effort to place you accordingly.
Once you have been given your assignments, you will volunteer every weekday in those assignments for the 3 weeks of the session.
FAQ: Ok…I found some assignments that are interesting to me, and I think I would like to apply for the Summer Teen program. Now what?
If you have NOT volunteered with us in the past, the next step will be for you to fill out an application. Click on this link: Summer Teen Program Application Form . Fill the application out completely, paying close attention to the instructions at the beginning of each section of the application. We will begin corresponding with you by email providing you with further instructions, updates, etc. Please note: Our correspondence with you will be almost exclusively by email, so please be sure to provide us with an email address and check it often.
If you have volunteered with us previously, please click on the “Returning Teen” link at the top of this page.
FAQ: Is there an orientation I have to attend?
No! As soon as you submit your application, you will receive an email with instructions for completing our online orientation. Please complete the orientation prior to your interview.
On your first day of volunteering, the department(s) you are assigned to will orient you to their area.
FAQ: Is everyone who applies accepted to the program, or is there an interview process?
Both. Everyone who applies is accepted to the program as long as he or she can meet the requirements, but an interview is required. At the interview we will determine your assignments, finish up some paperwork, take your picture for your badge and have you purchase a uniform.
Once you have completed your online orientation, please call to set the date for your interview. Teen Summer Program Interviews will start April 30th and continue until July 6th. Just remember, placements are made on a first come, first serve basis. Interviews can be scheduled for Monday - Friday: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
FAQ: If I have a question that is not answered here…who should I contact?
You may contact the Volunteer Office at 313-1290.
Our office hours are 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday
