Saint Joseph Health System, Lexington, KY
Three KentuckyOne Facilities Honored by Kentucky Hospital Association

Saint Joseph London, Continuing Care Hospital, Lexington, and Our Lady of Peace, Louisville, were honored by the Kentucky Hospital Association at the organization's annual convention May 23. All facilities received a 2012 Kentucky Hospital Association Quality Award recognizing hospital leadership and innovation in quality, safety and commitment in patient care.

Saint Joseph London, a 120-bed regional facility that provides a full range of medical, emergency, surgical and obstetrical services, received the award for its work in reducing Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI or heart attack) readmissions. AMI readmissions were reduced by 43% (from a baseline of 23% to 13%) following implementation of a transition coach and the addition of the AMI specialty clinic.

Continuing Care Hospital, a general acute care hospital that addresses the unique and complicated needs of the long-term acute care patient, received the award for its safe Patient Handling and Movement initiative. The facility developed a committee that works to improve patient safety and quality.

Our Lady of Peace, the largest private non-profit psychiatric hospital in the U.S. that provides care to children and adolescents, received the award for its efforts toward the SafetyFirst initiative. The program encourages the participation of families in the treatment process of the patient and in helping initiate and improve quality measures to promote safety. Daily safety huddles and a safety coach program are key components of the initiative, which is being implemented across KentuckyOne Health.
