Cardiac Rehab FAQs

When can I start cardiac rehab?

Patients typically begin cardiac rehab two to six weeks following a cardiac event or procedure, or a release from your cardiologist.

Will my insurance cover the cost of cardiac rehab?

Most insurance companies will cover certain diagnoses for cardiac rehab. Our experienced staff will help you verify your coverage or talk to you about your options if your insurance does not cover the cost of the program.

How do I get started?

Ask your cardiologist or a family physician for a referral to Saint Joseph Cardiac Rehabilitation Center, or call our Center at (859) 313-4793.

How often will I attend cardiac rehab sessions?

During Phase II, patients typically attend rehab three times a week. During Phase III, you can exercise up to five days a week.

How long should I plan to attend rehab?

An individualized program is set up for everyone. In general, cardiac rehab takes six to 12 weeks. Phase III maintenance and prevention programs are ongoing.

I don't know if I have heart disease. Can you help?

Visit and take the free, confidential heart and vascular risk assessment. If the assessment determines that you may be at risk for heart disease, a Saint Joseph Health System nurse will contact you to schedule a free screening at a facility near you.
