FAQs

How long do patients stay in the hospital?

The length of a patient's stay varies depending on the procedure. Please consult your physician if you have questions regarding your length of stay at The Women's Hospital at Saint Joseph East, and he or she can go over any concerns you may have.

Can a patient leave whenever she wants to be discharged?

Your physician will talk with you regarding when you are to be discharged from the hospital. We will provide specific instructions concerning medications, diet and follow-up visits.

If you just delivered, be sure to arrange for transportation home for you and your newborn. State law requires that parents transport infants in the back seat according to the carseat manufacturer's specifications. We recommend you practice using the carseat prior to leaving the hospital.

What if I have questions after I have been discharged?

Our staff is available to assist you with all your discharge questions including home health and medical equipment. When you are ready to leave the hospital, a member of our team will escort you, by wheelchair, to the hospital entrance for pick up.

Where can I get a copy of my medical records?

You will need to submit a written request of your medical records from our Health Information Management department.

What are the hospital's visiting hours?

General hospital visiting hours extend from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is always open to parents, with the exception of shift change, which takes place at the following times and lasts for 45 minutes: 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Are there volunteer opportunities available at the hospital?

Absolutely! We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities. It's easy to get involved, contact our Volunteer Office at 859.313.1290 for further information.

Are there support groups/classes?

The Women's Hospital at Saint Joseph East offers many support groups through our Maternity Education Department.

Please call The Women's Hospital at Saint Joseph East at 859.967.CARE (2273), if you have additional questions.
