FAQs

What kind of classes do you offer?

The Women's Hospital at Saint Joseph East Maternity Education Department offers a variety of perinatal classes for the expectant parents, grandparents and siblings. We pride ourselves with educating the entire family for baby's arrival.

Where will my classes be held?

The location of your class is provided on your written confirmation. The majority of our classes are located at The Women's Hospital at Saint Joseph East, with the exception of a few located at the Saint Joseph East Medical Office Building.

What to expect in a Childbirth Education Class? The Women's Hospital Maternity Education

We offer five different childbirth education classes to meet the educational needs of all new parents. Our 4-week course is informative and more comprehensive in nature. Our 2-week course is slightly more condensed; while our weekend class is abbreviated for those parents on the go!

How do I pay for my classes?

We only accept debit or credit cards for payment at the time of registration. Depending on your circumstances, you may qualify for reduced class fees if you are age 21 or under or have a medical card. Before registering, please call our office at 859.967.2229 for more information.

How will I know if I am registered for class?

After your registration is processed, you will receive a written class confirmation via US postal mail. Since some parents register weeks or months in advance, we will send you a friendly email reminder a week prior to your class date.

What do I bring with me to a Childbirth Education Class?

We recommend that you bring a blanket or yoga mat, two pillows and your support person. It is also best to wear comfortable clothing as you will be practicing labor positions on the floor as well as breathing and relaxation techniques.

Does my support person need to come to a Breastfeeding Class, or is it for new mommies only?

Support persons are welcomed and strongly encouraged to attend our Breastfeeding Class! Involving your significant other is very beneficial for mom's success.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Our classes are very popular and often fill to capacity weeks beforehand. If you find that you cannot attend or need to reschedule, please call 859.967.2229, as soon as possible.

Because of the high demand and limited amount of participant space, our Infant CPR class needs a 2-week cancellation notice to receive a full refund.

How do I pre-register for my hospital admission?

During your Childbirth Education Class you will be given your "Admitting Folder" which has a pre-registration form along with important consent forms and additional hospital information. If you are unable to attend Childbirth Education, we can make arrangements for you to either pick-up this folder or have it mailed to you. You may pre-register at our website.

If you should have any additional questions, or would like to register for class, please contact our Maternity Education Coordinator, Diane Prewitt, RN, CLC at 859.967.2229

Please note: Our coordinator's office hours vary according to class schedules. All calls are returned within 24 - 48 hours. We greatly appreciate your patience!
