Policies and Responsibilities

Visiting Your Baby in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

  • Parents and grandparents are encouraged to visit as often as possible
    • Three people may visit the baby's bedside at one time
  • Additional family members and friends are not allowed visitation due to the risk of exposure to infection for your baby.
  • Refrain from asking questions about other babies in the unit to protect the privacy and confidentiality of all our families.
  • Please stay at your baby's bedside only and turn off cell phones.

Smoke-free Facility

The Women's Hospital at Saint Joseph East is proud to lead the way to a healthier community in Lexington, Kentucky with a smoke-free environment. Smoking is not permitted in buildings, on the facility grounds or in parking lots. For the health of our patients, employees and visitors, we ask that you please extinguish all smoking materials before exiting your vehicle.

Parent Responsibilities - Medical Records and Insurance

Your newborn's medical chart is available for viewing and questions answered by the physician at an arranged time. Copies of the chart may be obtained from the medical records department after your newborn's discharge from the hospital. A fee will be applied to all copies of medical records.

Notify your employer or insurance carrier of your baby's birth as soon as possible. They will provide you with the necessary paperwork to add your newborn to your insurance policy. A representative from the business office will be available to help with any questions.
