The Women's Hospital at Saint Joseph East offers educational programs, maternity support, and a commitment to caring for all women and their families seeking Lexington, Kentucky Maternity Education classes. We understand that you are faced with many decisions related to your maternity needs-let us provide you with the right tools and resources.
Education Classes
To ensure enrollment in our classes, please register when you are approximately 20 weeks gestation.
Depending on your circumstances, you may qualify for reduced-fee classes. Before registering, please call our office at 859.967.BABY (2229) for more information. All classes must be paid at registration.
Please note: All childbirth and sibling classes offered by The Women's Hospital will tour the facility.

Childbirth Education Classes
 Cost: $45 per couple

Our Lamaze-based, 4-week series is a comprehensive and informative class on what to expect during labor, delivery and postpartum. We highly recommend attending these classes when you are 28-30 weeks gestation.
Discussion topics include:
- Normal labor processes
- Pain relief options
- Cesarean birth/deliveries
- Breathing and relaxation techniques
- Medications
- After delivery care
- Hospital admitting procedures
Cost: $40 per couple

This program is a more compact version of our 4-week series covering the same scope of discussion topics ensuring you are just as prepared for labor and delivery. We highly recommend attending these classes when you are 30-32 weeks gestation.

This program is a more compact version of our 4-week series covering the same scope of discussion topics ensuring you are just as prepared for labor and delivery. We highly recommend attending these classes when you are 32-34 weeks gestation.

This class is a Lamaze-based, one-day class. Lasting only 4 hours, you will receive an abbreviated version of discussion topics covered in our 4-week series. We highly recommend attending this class when you are 32-34 weeks gestation

Our Lamaze-based, Private Childbirth Class is a one-time, one-day class and is suggested for those parents-to-be who prefer to have one-on-one instruction. This class includes all aspects of our 4-hour Weekend Childbirth Education Class. We highly recommend attending this class when you are 32-34 weeks gestation. Please bring two pillows and your support person with you to enhance your comfort.

This one-time class incorporates educational material designed to make you feel more comfortable and secure in your ability to take care of your newborn. Guest speakers include local pediatricians and a pediatric dentist. Registered grandparents welcome to attend.
Discussion topics include:
- What to expect in the hospital
- Normal newborn appearances
- Caring for your newborn
- Feeding your newborn
- Bathing techniques for your newborn
- Cord and circumcision care
- Hands-on activities-swaddling, diaper changing and holding-using life-sized dolls
Cost: $25 per couple

Our Breastfeeding class is taught by Certified Lactation Counselors. We highly recommend attending this class during your third trimester. Spouses are encouraged to attend.
Prenatal preparation for breastfeeding topics focus on:
- Advantages of breastfeeding
- Proper positioning and latch-on
- Guidelines for adequate breastfeeding
- How to prevent and resolve discomforts
- Breast pump options
- Storage of milk
Cost: Free - only offered to mothers who have delivered at Saint Joseph East.

Our Breastfeeding Support class offers encouragement, information and education to promote better breastfeeding for mom and baby after delivery. This class is hosted by a Certified Lactation Counselor. Babies welcomed.
Monthly various topics include:
- First Six Weeks: Nutrition for Mom and Baby
- Back to Work/School: Pumping
- Breastfeeding: Troubleshooting Problems
- Open topic discussions
Cost: $25 per couple
Limit of 3 couples per class
This is a one-time class. Parents will be able to learn basic techniques of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and choking for their newborn. Educational material covers infants from newborn to 1 year old.
This is not a certification class; no AHA certificate will be given.
Please note: Refunds will NOT be given if you cancel this class with less than two weeks notice.

Limited to 5 children per class-parent or guardian must accompany child
Recommended for children ages 3 to 5 years old, this is a fun class for big brothers and sisters. Our goal is to promote a strong family unit as well as relieving some of the anxieties of bringing a new baby into the household.

Limited to 6 children per class-parent or guardian must accompany child
This class covers topics and gains the same hands on experience as with our Sibling Class, but recommended for children 6 to 12 years old.
